September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

01 Sep 2025

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the extraordinary impact that cancer has on children, their families and the community.

At Children’s Cancer Institute we believe a life should be long. That every child should get the chance to grow up, grow old, plan exciting futures and live a life that is full of possibilities.

But sadly, cancer cuts life short for hundreds of children every year. In Australia alone, more than 1000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year. And every week, three young lives will be lost to the disease.

For over 40 years, we have been conducting research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer – and we have made extraordinary progress. Today, more than eight out of 10 children will survive their disease. Progress that is largely thanks to loyal supporters like you, who have backed world-leading medical research.

Today our vision remains the same, to save the lives of all children with cancer and improve their long-term health, through research. Our journey is far from over. We won’t stop until every child can live a long, happy and healthy life.

We believe there is so much more we can do to help children with cancer. Families are relying on our research. I hope you can join us this month to raise awareness and show support:
