Kokoda for Kids’ Cancer Research

By Rikki Hodge

I'm fundraising for a great cause!

I am taking part in a challenge to help fund the very clever people finding a cure for childhood cancer, by trekking 8 days across the Kokoda Track in April 2027.

The day I was diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer was the eve of my dear friend’s son (3yo Hunter the Hero!) going in for surgery to remove a tumour in his brain. (Glioma in his cerebellum).

I was there the night he terrifyingly showed the first symptom. His mum, Emma, wouldn’t let anyone tell her he was fine. That mama instinct saved his life.

Li’l Hunter and I have had a parallel journey he won’t remember, and I’ll never forget.

For that, it felt fitting to tie my longstanding goal of tackling Kokoda with a deeper purpose connected to him, while he helps countless other kids with the research done on his case.

Every week, 20 kids will be diagnosed with cancer and on average 3 will lose their life. There is usually no known cause, treatment can go on for many years and it puts an enormous strain on family life.

Together, we can help find a cure for childhood cancer and create safer, more effective treatments.

Please donate and support my challenge to help fund those changing the lives of kids with cancer.
