Children’s Cancer Institute is proud to be participating in the annual ICAP Charity Day to raise vital funds for childhood cancer research.
Taking place today, Thursday 11 December, the Institute is one of just 10 charity partners for the Sydney leg of the unique fundraising event.
“On average every day three Australian families will learn their child has cancer and whilst survival rates have improved, still more children die from cancer than any other disease. This diagnosis is devastating at any time but particularly challenging during the family holiday Christmas season. Our research is vital to improving these outcomes, but we need the support of the community to make this possible,” said Anne Johnston, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at Children’s Cancer Institute.
“The ICAP Charity Day represents a unique and fun opportunity to raise vital funds that will get us closer to achieving our mission of one day curing every child of cancer. With the support of this wonderful team, we believe we will get there, and it’s so important because cancer changes Christmas for too many kids and their families.”
Now in its 33rd year, ICAP Charity Day represents a pioneering fundraising initiative that since it began in 1993, has made a significant and lasting positive impact worldwide. The event has raised over £170 million, which has been donated to more than 3,100 charitable causes globally, directly supporting more than 7.7 million people.
Made possible through ICAP’s position at the heart of global markets, the company and their brokers together give 100% of one day’s revenue to a select group of charities globally, guaranteeing a material donation to fund specific projects and initiatives.
ICAP Charity Day has grown to be an iconic day in the charity and financial calendar, capturing the imagination of our colleagues, clients, charity partners and their celebrity ambassadors, who range from royalty, to sporting greats, to stars of the silver screen.

About Children’s Cancer Institute
Originally founded by two fathers of children with cancer in 1976, Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer. More than 40 years on, our vision remains to save the lives of all children with cancer and improve their long-term health, through research. The Institute has grown to now employ over 350 researchers, operational staff and students, and has established a national and international reputation for scientific excellence. Our focus is on translational research, and we have an integrated team of laboratory researchers and clinician scientists who work together in partnership to discover new treatments which can be progressed from the lab bench to the beds of children on wards in hospitals as quickly as possible. By developing safer and more effective drugs and drug combinations, we aim to minimise side effects, giving children with cancer the best chance of cure with the highest possible quality of life.
