Ride for Lily

Event description

The 2024 Vélo de Vic will be a challenging but stunning ride through country Victoria.  Starting and finishing at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, we are reminded of why we are riding - to find a cure for childhood cancer.

The Ride for Lily in 2024 is being ridden in memory of Alex Preston, the son of one of our riders and support crew - David and Tanya Preston.  We will be retracing the journey the Preston family made when they discovered Alex was suffering from brain cancer.  Long days in the saddle and riding up mountains is hard, but nothing like the hardships families and kids go through when they find out they are sick.

Support this year’s epic 1000km ride from Melbourne, through Mansfield and the high country to summit Hotham via Bright, down the coast at Metung and through Gippsland to return to Melbourne via the stunning Donna Buang and Dandenongs.

We ride in memory of Alex, Lily and all the children who have lost their battle, and for all the kids who have survived or are still fighting.  We ride to fund research to find a cure so no more kids have to fight cancer.

Join us on another epic challenge, fundraise to help us beat our goal and be part of finding a cure.

Introducing Dr Emmy Dolman

In 2019, Emmy joined Children’s Cancer Institute from the Netherlands to commence her role as Senior Scientist in our Zero Childhood Cancer Program (ZERO). Whether you're taking part in Ride for Lily or sponsoring one of our riders, you're supporting Emmy in her preclinical research work to develop better understandings of the drivers of disease that are often unique to each child's cancer;

Live for Lily’s support of Emmy will help to make combination testing available on a per-patient basis, increasing treatment precision and build on a global knowledge base for rare cancers.
