I'm taking part in River's Race to raise funds for Children's Cancer Institute
River's Race is a community event in loving memory of River Watkins - and for all kids with DMG/DIPG.
River was an exceptional kid who should have had the biggest and most beautiful life.
River was diagnosed with DMG/DIPG a month before his 8th birthday. Devastatingly, River passed away less than 3 weeks after his diagnosis.
DMG/DIPG has been described as the Mt Everest of cancers. Occurring in the midline of the brain and infiltrating the surrounding healthy tissue, these tumours are inoperable and untreatable. A finding of DMG/DIPG is the worst possible diagnosis for a child and their family as there is no hope – families are generally told to go home and make memories and the median survival time is 9 months.While there is no cure for DMG/DIPG, Children's Cancer Institute are making major inroads. For the first time ever, there is hope on the horizon for the families of children diagnosed with this disease. Let’s close the funding gap and change the future of kids with DMG.
