The Western Knights U11s Mosman Park side taking part in River's Race to raise funds for Children's Cancer Institute

Our local Mosman Park side, the Western Knights U11s, is taking part in River’s Race to raise money for a great cause.

River's Race is a community event held in loving memory of River Watkins—and for all kids with DMG/DIPG. River was an exceptional kid who should have had the chance to grow up and live a big, beautiful life. Devastatingly, River was diagnosed with DMG and passed away on his 8th birthday, less than three weeks after his diagnosis.
DMG/DIPG has been described as the Mt Everest of cancers. Occurring in the midline of the brain and infiltrating surrounding healthy tissue, these tumours are currently inoperable and untreatable. A finding of DMG/DIPG is the worst possible diagnosis for a child and their family: with no cure and a median survival time of just 9 months, families are told to simply go home and make memories.
While there is currently no cure, the Children's Cancer Institute is making major inroads. For the first time ever, there is genuine hope on the horizon for families facing this disease.
