Event description
The sixth annual Ride for Lily – Kiwi Classic – will take place from 9th - 15th April 2023.
Riders will be taking on over 1,100km from Christchurch to Queenstown (New Zealand) to raise money to find a cure for childhood cancer in memory of Lily Hester.
Lily was just eight years old when she was diagnosed with an extremely rare liver cancer. She endured over 6 months of chemotherapy, 6 operations, radiation, amongst other scans, tests and many hospital visits. In January 2014, Lily did go into remission but sadly after another scan in March 2014, she received the devastating news that her cancer was terminal. Brave Lily sadly passed away on 11th August 2014 after a hard and brave battle.
Live for Lily Foundation was established to honour Lily and with the hope of finding a cure for childhood cancer. The Foundation has raised over $1,000,000 for Children’s Cancer Institute.
Introducing Dr Emmy Dolman
In 2019, Emmy joined Children’s Cancer Institute from the Netherlands to commence her role as Senior Scientist in our Zero Childhood Cancer Program (ZERO). Whether you're taking part in Ride for Lily or sponsoring one of our riders, you're supporting Emmy in her preclinical research work to develop better understandings of the drivers of disease that are often unique to each child's cancer;
Live for Lily’s support of Emmy will help to make combination testing available on a per-patient basis, increasing treatment precision and build on a global knowledge base for rare cancers.
