About Us

At Children’s Cancer Institute, our belief is that a life should be long. That every child should have the chance to grow up, grow old, and chase their dreams. But in Australia, more than 1000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. Everything we do is about helping these kids not only survive but go on to live long, healthy lives. As the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to childhood cancer, we are working every day to find safer and more effective treatments so that every child has the chance to grow up and fulfil their potential.

In Australia, more than 1000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. And each week, three young lives will be lost to the disease. For those who survive, two-thirds face the prospect of serious long-term health problems caused by the treatment that saved their life. Thanks to medical research, today, more than 8 out of 10 kids will survive their disease, but there are still cancers that have no effective treatments. We need to pioneer new, novel treatments for these children that are not only more effective but safer, so that every child can live a long, healthy life.

Donations will support Zero Childhood Cancer (ZERO), the world-leading precision medicine program for Australian children with cancer. ZERO is true research-driven clinical care, where we analyse each child’s cancer at a genomic level so we can understand what is driving it, and recommend a potential treatment to the child’s doctor. Since 2017, over 2500 children have been enrolled on the program. Results show that survival rates for children who receive a ZERO-recommended treatment are double that of those who receive standard therapy. More children are alive today thanks to ZERO.
