In Memory of David Wolf – Supporting Matty’s Hope

The Wolfy Foundation is honoured to stand alongside Matty’s Hope and support the incredible work being undertaken by the Children’s Cancer Institute (CCI).

The Children’s Cancer Institute is Australia’s only independent medical research institute wholly dedicated to cancers affecting children, adolescents and young adults. 

Matty’s Hope is a brain cancer research project led by Professor David Ziegler of CCI’s Brain Tumour Group.  It was established in memory of Matthew Liam Lam, who was diagnosed at 19 with an extremely rare and aggressive brain cancer, Diffuse Hemispheric Glioma, H3 G34-mutant (G34-DHG). Matt celebrated his 20th birthday while undergoing treatment before losing his battle with brain cancer in July 2022, just months shy of his 21st birthday.

CCI’s Brain Tumour Group researches some of the most difficult and aggressive brain cancers. Their work includes targeted therapies, immunotherapies, personalised treatment approaches and new ways to overcome the blood-brain barrier.

There have already been significant advances, including the establishment of Australia’s first DIPG tumour bank, identification of potential treatments progressing towards clinical trials, and research contributing to the Zero Childhood Cancer personalised medicine program. More recent research has identified promising therapeutic approaches and new targets for difficult-to-treat brain tumours.

These advances demonstrate why research matters. Every discovery builds knowledge and brings us closer to better, more targeted and less devastating treatments.

By supporting Matty’s Hope, the Wolfy Foundation is helping ensure that David’s and Matt’s stories continue to make a difference — supporting work that seeks answers, develops new treatments and creates hope for future generations of young people and their families.
