Sydney Hockey - Matty's Hope Round 26 July and 2-3 August 2025
Matthew Lam passed away on 29 July 2022 from a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer Diffuse Hemispheric Glioma H3 G34-mutant (G34-DHG).
Matt was an active member of our hockey community. Matt played and umpired in the Sydney Hockey competition. He also coached the junior hockey teams at his club and for various schools, assisted at his club's women's training sessions, umpired the Sydney North Women's Competition and worked at the hockey shop. Matt gave so much to the game and its people.
Matt's family partnered with the Children's Cancer Institute (CCI) to launch Matty's Hope, a research project focusing on G34-DHG. This ground breaking initiative, launched in February 2023, is the first of its kind in Australia.
To support this important work, Sydney Hockey held its inaugural Matty's Hope Round in July 2023. Since then, with the incredible generosity of our community, we've raised over $48,000 towards this vital cause.
We are proud to continue to partnership with Matt's family by dedicating the games held on the weekends of 26 July and 2-3 August 2025 as this year's Matty's Hope Round.
We invite all members of the Sydney Hockey community to join us in supporting life-saving research.
Your donation will directly fund research into G34-DHG, helping to shine a light on a disease that has, until now, remained under-researched.
