Hi, I’m fundraising for Matty’s Hope
On 27 July 2025, I’ll be running the Harbour 10K and fundraising for Matty’s Hope.
Matty’s Hope is a research project in honour of Matthew Liam Lam. Matthew sadly lost his battle to a debilitating brain cancer – known as Glioblastoma H3G34R – on 29 July 2022, just five months shy of his 21st birthday.
There’s currently very little in the way of treatment options available for this kind of brain cancer apart from radiation and one type of chemotherapy drug. I believe more can be done to save the lives of children and young people like Matty who are diagnosed with brain cancer.
Children’s Cancer Institute is the only medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicate to curing childhood cancer and innovate safer treatments for children.
Matty’s Hope is a research project led by Professor David Ziegler and Dr Maria Tsoli from the Brain Tumour team at Children’s Cancer Institute. This project aims to discover alternative approaches to therapeutic targets that can improve patient outcomes for the rare tumour that Matt had – Glioblastoma H3G34R.
Please head over to the Matty’s Hope page to read Matt’s story from his family and read about the research project.
Yesterday (17 May) was the first time I laced up my running shoes since 2023! I gave birth to my son in September 2024, and was only able to do low impact exercise during my pregnancy.
I’ve given myself 10 weeks to train for 10 kilometres, while breastfeeding!
10K might not seem like a long way for more seasoned runners, but to make 10K will be a big achievement for me. I can’t promise I’ll run very fast, or even run the whole way, but I will give it a good crack.
If you want to track my progress as I return to running, please follow my page on Instagram ‘The Slow Return’, and I’d love you to consider donating to Matty’s Hope!
