I was diagnosed with a terminal tumor at the age of 14. A tumor never seen before after being misdiagnosed by GPs for over 12 months. I watched a lump grow from a tennis ball to a football size and was told by GPs I was crazy.
I went to the children's for another issue and showed the surgeon my hip.
Within 24hours I had a biopsy and commenced years of treatment.
My prognosis was I would not survive , best case scenario is loose my leg.
After loosing my hair, years of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgeries, wound break downs I survived. Thanks to the incredible team at the RCH, The Alfred and the support of challenge children's cancer organisation saved my life.
I spent many years in rehab learning to walk again and learning how to live with chronic pain.
In 2020 I found a benign tumor on my hearing nerve which required surgery and I lost my hearing in that one ear.
I am taking part in 86K for a Cure to help find a cure for childhood cancer. I don't want any child to have to go through what I went through.
Every month, 86 children are diagnosed with cancer. There is usually no known cause, treatment can go on for many years and it puts an enormous strain on family life.
So I am conquering this challenge for the 86 children who are diagnosed with cancer each month.
Together, we can help find a cure for childhood cancer and create safer, more effective treatments.
