Support my Challenge to Help Kids with Cancer!

I am taking part in 86K for a Cure to help find a cure for childhood cancer.

Every month, 86 children are diagnosed with cancer. There is usually no known cause, treatment can go on for many years and it puts an enormous strain on family life.

So I am conquering this challenge for the 86 children who are diagnosed with cancer each month.

Together, we can help find a cure for childhood cancer and create safer, more effective treatments.

Please DONATE NOW and support my challenge to change the lives of kids with cancer.

My Updates

Half way.

Monday 16th Mar
Half way through the challenge and have completed 200km of my 400km challenge … the next couple of weeks will provide a challenge as I jet off to the Gold Coast at the end of the week to compete in the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships which will restrict my Km’s in the final week. So determined to get the Km’s up between now and Friday in order to edge closer to my goal. Have almost hit the $2000 mark and so incredibly thankful to my many generous friends who have donated to this cause. A fitting tribute to George McNees this morning on Triple M who were plugging the Ponting Foundation and the work they do for kids and families in Tasmania impacted by cancer. George is the reason I’m doing this campaign and whilst the money raised won’t bring him back… it will certainly go towards other children impacted by cancer to hopefully enable them a better outcome. my heart continues to break for Sarah, Darren and Arabella … George achieved so much in his short life and continues to do so in spirit.

Week 1 of challenge complete

Monday 9th Mar
Week 1 of the challenge in now complete …. A distance of 130.8km covered … 15.2km of swimming, 79km of riding, 28.4km of running and 8.2km of walking … amazing how motivated you are when you commit to a challenge and it has a purpose. A massive thank you to my very generous supporters that have contributed to a fundraising total of just over $1800, well beyond my original Goal of $500 … my goal is to now surpass $2500 in order to fund the development of a life saving minimal residual test to determine a child’s chance of relapse. Bring on week 2.

And so it begins

Sunday 1st Mar
Today begins my personal challenge for kids with cancer … what began as 86km of running for the month of March has now been revisited to 400km of swimming, running, riding and walking for the month of March. This challenge is important to me for many reasons. In 2007, I swam the English Channel in order to raise awareness and funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia. Ricky Ponting and my brother James became the driving force behind my campaign. As a result of an incredible teams effort we raised $367000 for the CCIA and I succeeded in becoming the first Tasmanian “woman” to cross the channel. Since then, I have continued to support the CCIA and other fundraising campaigns that support children and their families who endure more than I could ever begin to imagine. What a fitting way to kickstart my campaign with a final lap of my 6km run around Howrah Primary School soccer and football ground in memory of George McNees who spent many happy moments here doing what he loved. Sarah, Darren and Arabella .. you are the driving force behind my efforts this month… I could never take away the ongoing sadness you face but my hope is to help others so they may not have to endure what you have and continue to do.

I am conquering 400km to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
