Conquer with Calise: 86km for a Cure!
Hi everyone,
This March, I will be participating in the 86KM for a Cure in support of the Children’s Cancer Institute. Every month, 86 children are diagnosed with cancer in Australia. I am setting out a personal fitness challenge to raise awareness and funds for a cause that has personally impacted my life.
In recent months, I was diagnosed with cancer in my appendix. If it wasn’t for the miracle that I had appendicitis, and required surgery, the health professionals wouldn’t have located the tumour before it was too late. It is an unexplainable feeling at the age of 24, however I am taking this on as strength, and live everyday since as a miracle that I can develop my health literacy surrounding this disease, and advocate awareness for cancer prevention, early detection and treatment. My perspective on health and life has shifted immensely in the past few month’s whilst battling my personal health. I am so grateful for the amazing people in my circle supporting me, as I navigate my health journey.
As a health and physical education teacher, I am inspired to educate youth to take control of their health and understand the importance of physical and mental health to sustain a happy and fulfilled life. I can’t help but think of the brave children who are fighting cancer every day. As I challenge myself, I will be reflecting on those to need it most, and I hope you’ll join me in supporting this amazing cause with a simple donation.
I am competing in this challenge for myself, the community, and children who need research, better treatments and above all - a cure. Too many people are being recently diagnosed with cancer, and as a community we need to prioritise our health to live a long life.
Together we can make a difference. Let’s walk towards a world where children can live stress and pain free, without fear and uncertainty for the future.
