A community workout in memory of Aria – and for every child like her

On 21 February 2024, we lost a beautiful 5-year-old girl named Aria Zimmermann.

She was just four when she was diagnosed with leukemia. After 18 months of treatment, she passed away. Aria was smart, brave, full of love, and the best big sister. She deserved so much more.

Last year, on what would have been her 6th birthday, CrossFit Marrickville hosted a charity WOD in her honour. The community came together and raised over $100,000 for the Children’s Cancer Institute and Bear Cottage. It was a powerful reminder of what we can do when we show up together.

What’s Happening

This year, we’re opening it up to gyms across the country.
We’re inviting you to join us for a special WOD on Saturday 21 June 2025 - to sweat, to remember, and to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

Why It Matters

Aria’s story is heartbreaking, but sadly, it’s not rare.

Every month in Australia, 86 kids are diagnosed with cancer. Almost a quarter won’t survive. And most of those who do will face lifelong health issues because the treatments available today were made for adults, not kids.

That’s why we’re raising funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute, the only research centre in Australia solely focused on curing childhood cancer. Their work is changing lives, and they need our help.

Here’s how it works:

  • Teams of 4
  • 90 minutes to burn as many calories as you can, bike, row, ski, run… whatever you’ve got
  • $40 per team to register ($10 per person)
  • Donations for registrations must be done on your gyms designated fundraising page

We’ll have prizes for:

  • The gym that raises the most
  • The team that burns the most calories

How You Can Get Involved

Whether your gym throws a big community day with food, music and good vibes, or you keep it low-key with your crew and a whiteboard - every calorie and every dollar counts.

Register your gym. Get your teams together. Start fundraising.

Let’s honour Aria. Let’s fight for every kid who deserves a future. And let’s show what the fitness community can do when we rally together.

We’ll see you on the floor.
