Scout is thriving thanks to you
When Scout was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour as a newborn, her family faced an unimaginable future. After surgery and months of chemotherapy, her cancer continued to grow and treatment options were running out. Scout was enrolled on the Zero Childhood Cancer Program (ZERO). Researchers identified a critical genetic driver in her tumour and uncovered a targeted treatment specifically for her cancer. Within months, her tumour had shrunk by 30%. Today, Scout is three years old, her cancer is being held at bay, and her future looks bright.
From data to discovery
The Zero Childhood Cancer Program is helping children today, but its greatest impact may be what it enables for the future. Every child enrolled contributes vital information about their cancer, creating one of the richest childhood cancer datasets in the world. Researchers are now using artificial intelligence and advanced data science to uncover patterns, identify new treatment opportunities and accelerate discoveries in ways that were impossible just a few years ago. On 9 September, Children's Cancer Institute will proudly join more than 30 of Australia's leading medical research institutes for the inaugural National MRI Giving Day.
This national initiative aims to raise awareness of the vital role medical research plays in improving and saving lives, while helping to accelerate the discoveries that change the future for patients and families.
