Christmas
Tom loves spending Christmas with his family.
But in 2022, instead of rushing to the tree on Christmas morning,
he woke up in a hospital bed, about to receive a devastating diagnosis.
Donate today and help us cure every child of cancer.
There’s a magical atmosphere at Christmas that creates lifelong memories. But every year, hundreds of Australian families will be facing a Christmas impacted by childhood cancer.
Some will be receiving a terrible diagnosis, others will be in the midst of gruelling treatment, and tragically, some families will be facing Christmas without their child.
For every family touched by this devastating disease, Christmas will never be the same again.
Children's Cancer Institute is conducting research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer. We've made great progress, but we won't stop until every child can live a long, happy and healthy life.
Please dig deep and donate what you can, so our research team can find a cure for every child and stop cancer from changing Christmas.
A life should be long.
Three years ago, Tom woke up on Christmas morning, not in his bed at home - but in hospital. On that day, his family learned that Tom had an aggressive and rare cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma.
“Being in hospital over Christmas was devastating, particularly for Tom,” says his mum, Melinda. “He’s a really sentimental kid, very family orientated. So taking Christmas away from him was huge.”
Tom faced 54 weeks of gruelling treatment, including high-dose chemotherapy, radiation and long stretches in hospital. At one point, he developed sepsis and was placed in intensive care. But thankfully, Tom’s tumour responded, and slowly, he got through it.
Today, Tom is back at school, full of energy and hoping to visit Japan.
Please donate this Christmas to help our researchers to find safer, more effective treatments for kids like Tom, and ultimately a cure for every child with cancer.
Last year, 79 cents of every dollar spent within the Institute was spent directly on dedicated research to help cure childhood cancer.
79% Research & scientific activities to help cure childhood cancer.
9% Fundraising activities to generate donations and increase funding.
12% Core support services and infrastructure cost, vital to keep the Institute running.
At Children’s Cancer Institute, we believe a life should be long. That every child should have the chance to grow up, grow old, chase their dreams and reach their potential.
But sadly, three children will be lost to this devastating disease every week in Australia.
That’s why we’ve launched the ACRF Child Cancer Liquid Biopsy Program - a revolutionary, non-invasive blood test that has the potential to transform how we monitor, treat and ultimately cure childhood cancer.
But we need your help to make it happen.
