Children's Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) cares about protecting your privacy, and is bound by the National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
COLLECTION
The type of information we collect from you may vary depending on the CCIA initiative you are supporting. The kinds of information we collect and hold may include: - Name, address, home phone/work phone/mobile/fax numbers, email & website information. - Date of birth, gender, membership/volunteer information. - Information about your history of childhood cancer, however, only with your consent; - Your bank account and/or credit card details. - Employer details (for workplace giving donors). - Any information provided by you to us by way of phone call, email or letter correspondence. This is held in Note form on your record. This could include personal information given with your consent, all queries and complaints. - A history of your donations. - A documentation of all appeal correspondence we send to you. - Any identification information we receive from external agencies/organisations, eg, agencies working on our behalf to recruit new supporters to CCIA.
Without some personal information, we may not be able to deliver your tax-deductible receipt should you donate, or send you other CCIA news/information.
We may collect this information in various ways including: By phone, email, internet, in person or from our appeal/fundraising response forms.
We may also collect information in the following ways: - From public mailing lists, e.g. The Australian Direct Marketing Association and other like-minded organisations. - From third parties such as your employer, e.g. if you participate in Workplace Giving projects. Or if you have donated towards a larger amount forwarded to us by your employer. - From other individuals who may make a donation in lieu of your celebration and who provide your details for acknowledgement correspondence. - From others who arrange fundraising events or activities on your behalf.
USE & DISCLOSURE
How information is used: - To process your donations and merchandise sales. - To provide your receipts for donations and sales. - To confirm your identity. - To respond to your queries or complaints appropriately. - To provide you with efficient feedback. - To assist us with our internal reporting.
We may also use or disclose your personal information from time to time in order to provide you with further information on our activities or opportunities to support CCIA. Disclosure: CCIA will only provide personal information to third parties where authorised or required by law, or with your consent either express or implied.
Occasionally CCIA allows other like-minded organisations to contact you with information that may be of interest to you. We endeavour to ensure that all personal information is accurate, complete and up to date. The personal information we collect about you is retained only to allow us to properly conduct our services.
DATA SECURITY
CCIA will make every effort to ensure your personal information is stored securely both within our hard copy data files and in electronic forms. Our website uses a secure site with SSL Certificates to offer secure communications by encrypting all data to and from the site. Your donation details are stored then downloaded via a secure file transfer protocol (FTP) site.
OPENNESS
CCIA has made every effort to be open and accountable to our supporters/volunteers whilst storing your personal information. We have outlined in the sections above what information we hold, for the purposes we hold it, how it was collected and held and how we use and disclose that information.
ACCESS & CORRECTION
You have the right to access your personal information held by CCIA at any time. To protect this information, we will require you to answer a security question before it is made accessible. We will endeavour to meet requests for access as soon as practicable.

IDENTIFIERS
All supporters and volunteers of CCIA are provided with a unique identification number once they are entered into our database. This unique number helps CCIA identify you for the purposes of carrying out our functions efficiently. This number is normally printed on our written correspondence to you.
ANONYMITY
It is your right, where it is practicable and lawful, not to identify yourself to CCIA when any kind of transaction is made. Non-identification of personal details could mean a receipt for that transaction might not be processed.
TRANS-BORDER FLOW OF INFORMATION
CCIA does not transfer your personal information outside Australia.
